First established in 1974 in Raleigh, NC (across from NC State University) Schoolkids once had 6 stores in the triangle region, including other flagship stores in Durham (9th Street) and Chapel Hill (Franklin Street) for almost 35 years. For the last 7-10 years we have just had the one store in Raleigh, we are proud to have a store back in Durham at Bright Leaf Square!
Specializing in Vinyl, CDs, Turntables and accessories, Schoolkids is a full service record store that also has a very strong history with the local music scene. We were one of the first stores in the country to carry music by artists such as: Superchunk, Archers of Loaf, Southern Culture on the Skids, Drive-By Truckers, The Connells, The dB’s, Ben Folds Five, Ryan Adams/Whiskeytown, Delta Rae, Tift Merritt, The Avett Brothers, Chatham County Line, Dave Matthews Band, Hootie & The Blowfish, The Carolina Chocolate Drops, Squirrel Nut Zippers and many more!
Schoolkids Records has had the distinct honor or being voted the #1 record store in the “Triangle” by readers of The Indy for 15 straight years and also have been named by both The Grammys & Time Magazine as one of the “Top Ten Most Iconic Record Stores in the Country.”
